All movie reviews are terrible and dishonest.
Most movie reviewers are only interested in free tickets and the promise of access to celebrities to be anything other than shills.
The rare intelligent movie reviewer inevitably pulls him or herself up short of performing actual criticism out of a misguided belief that the movie's "entertainment" value must trump everything else.
Most people who make, act in, and watch movies are morons. Morons can be entertained by anything.
Critics should not bind their intellect to the minds of morons.
Whether or not the morons who make and watch them understand it, movies perform an alarmingly important cultural function. They establish, define, filter, and reshape most of what most modern Americans think the world is and should be.
So movies should be taken seriously by critics. The way critics can demonstrate that they take movies seriously is by relentlessly criticizing them.
No critic does this. Except me. This blog will provide the only legitimate criticism of contemporary film that you will find on the internet or in print.
It is not for morons.
